About
London label 'Kal Kaur Rai' has become synonymous with inspirational womenswear
that is supremely sexy. Young, progressive, girly, flirty designs with a distinct
handwriting have gained the label a loyal following.
Frequently featured on the fashion pages of publications such as Elle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and The Telegraph Magazine, the label has been worn by the likes of Victoria Beckham, Mariah Carey, Mis-teeq, Beyonce Knowles, Cat Deeley, Danni Minogue and many more.
Launched in 1997 at London Interseason trade show, the label was immediately picked up by leading Independents and in 1998 secured a retail unit at the Hype DF fashion store in High St Kensington. By August 2000, encouraged by the growing popularity, Head Designer Kal launched her own wholesale showroom at 72 Great Titchfield Street, London W1. The showroom has become a vital destination for buyers from influential boutiques who want something a little different for their customers.
November 2001 saw Kal Kaur Rai offered her first concession in the Oxford Street branch of Topshop. A spokesperson from Europe’s biggest fashion store say's "it's one of the best selling new labels at Topshop - it's literally flying off the rails!"
Today Kal
Kaur Rai continues to be in great demand from customers, celebrities and the
fashion press. The label is now stocked in over 80 stores across the globe and
is gathering momentum everyday.
Collection - Winter 2002
For Winter 2002, Kal Kaur Rai invites you to 'turn up the volume', with pieces that guarantee you make an entrance. The colder the weather, the hotter the outfit - and this collection does not fail to disappoint.
Dramatic trouser suits are cut from striking feather-print stretch corduroy. Jackets are nipped in at the waist and skim the hip, whilst trousers are cigarette slim and dangerously low slung. Long fitted dress coats unbutton to reveal micro-mini skirts that highlight only the sexiest of thighs.
Bell sleeved, printed kaftan dresses and tops are slashed to the thigh for a sultry, seventies feel. Kal's trademark antique gold lace is spun into the most delicate negligee-style micro dresses and camisoles. Teamed with the highest of heels and the smallest of bags, the look is pure high maintenance meets boudoir chic.
The continuing allure of the sensual gypsy look is powerfully transformed for deepest winter. Combined with gothic elements, tulle and lace-trim tiered skirts are worn with twisted, bondage style ribbon tops in the only colour for the darkest of nights: black.
A sweeter, handmade vibe comes from three-quarter length dresscoats and hipster jeans cut from rich, tapestry fabric. Essential skirts, dresses and tops in draped jersey compliment the rest of the collection and feature in chocolate, mustard, wine and black.
The Kal Kaur
Rai Collection is available at independent boutiques across the country, Topshop

Collection - Summer 2003
For summer 2003, womenswear designer Kal Kaur Rai offers a collection of edgy, styles in a colour palette combining brights with pastels. Including Micro mini's, draped jersey and backless pieces, the selection of seductive dresses and separates aims to maximise a woman's curves.
Backless haltertops and ragged hem Fame-style mini dancerskirts drape the body in fluid jersey. In duck egg blue, dusky pink and khaki, pieces are edged in ribbon and are perfect for versatile summer styling. Kal Kaur Rai's take on ladylike chic is the gorgeous, halterneck crossover jersey dress in cream, pink, black and apple green. Pure sophistication.
A nod to the Eighties comes in the guise of the sexiest, gathered jersey micro dress. Perfect for wearing over an acid-bright bikini, skinny legged trousers or alone on steamy evenings, the dress comes in white, black, neon yellow and fushia pink and drapes and gathers seductively to cover only the barest of flesh.
Printed, multicoloured, silk chiffon separates are sweetly feminine and inject a riot of colour into the modern wardrobe. Transparent/sheer wrap tops and billowy summer vests have elasticated waists, which sit perfectly on denim-clad hips. Oyster coloured satin backless wrap tops and dresses feature luscious Tropical prints ideal for steamy summer evenings.
Prices range from £39 - £120. The collection is available at selected House of Fraser stores, Topshop (Oxford Circus) plus independent boutiques. Call 020 7580 9111 for stockists information.
Classic pinstripe is given a modern edge for A/W 2003. Inspiration is drawn from 80's style high-powered dressing but is given a softer, flirtier appeal by combining draped, fluid fabrics with satin bows and polkadot ribbons in shades of emerald green and purple. A mix of chains, zips and metal clips add interest to the simplest of shapes.
Fun, brightly-coloured T-shirts are customized with prints, gold chains, polkadot ribbons, satin bows and flower corsages, worn with distressed cord kilts and mini-skirts and seriously low-cut hipster trousers. 1960's style miniskirts (also in distressed cord) are printed with the image of a Mini Cooper.
Pure Luxury for the party season comes in the form of slinky black and petrol blue satin spun into structured corset tops, dresses and skirts that fit like a second skin. Vintage prints are used on luxurious stretch silk backless dresses and a selection of satin separates in accent colours of emerald green and purple are accessorised with sequins and gold chains.
Prices range from £30 to £150. The collection is available at Topshop on Oxford Circus plus independent boutiques across the country.
